Day of Surgery

On the day of surgery, you should report to the Hospital at the time given to you at your pre-admission interview. Please remember not to wear any jewelry and leave other valuables at home.

You will be greeted by the nurse who will tell you what to expect during your procedure and recovery. An IV will be started and you will meet with the anesthesiologist again. You will be given medication to help you relax before you are brought to the operating room.

Your physician/surgeon will perform the procedure in one of our seven operating rooms or four endoscopy suites. When the surgery is complete, you will be brought to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)/Recovery Room. You will remain at the Hospital until your physician and nurse have determined it is safe for you to go home.

If you will be going home later the same day, you will be moved back to the Day Surgery area where you will receive discharge instructions. Your family members will be able to see you here after an appropriate recovery time. You will also receive a follow-up call the next day from a nurse who will ask about your recovery and answer any questions you may have. If you are being admitted, you will be moved to an inpatient room for additional care.
