Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

IMRT is a cancer treatment whereby the radiation beam is carefully sculpted around a patient's anatomy to lessen the amount of radiation delivered to the area of concentration. Pre-op and Post-op Adjuvant IMRT, and IMRT to anal and nodal targets, are available to colorectal cancer patients. IMRT is available at Shields Radiation Oncology Center Mansfield, a partnership between Sturdy Memorial and Morton Hospitals, and Shields Health Care Group
Surgical
Laparoscopic colon resections for right and left colonic lesions
Open colon resections for right and left colonic lesions
Endorectal ultrasound for pre-operative staging of rectal cancers
Low anterior resections and abdominal perineal resections for rectal cancers
Sphincter saving low anastmosis for very low lying rectal cancers
Endoluminal stenting (where appropriate)
Liver resections for isolated colorectal liver metastasis
Debulking for primary or recurrent peritoneal circumstances where appropriate
Pelvic exenteration for locally advanced rectal cancers
